What our community has to say
I have been on the allotment for just over twelve months. I share an allotment, and I have found this works well for me. I have learned so much, from tilling the land to growing from seed, planting out into the soil to, and, best of all harvesting the crops. I enjoy every moment of the allotment. You can lose yourself in the work you are doing, or enjoy a natter over the fence or on the causeways. There are so many people with a wealth of knowledge, to help and support you. A friendly and relaxed place to be. I would recommend an allotment to anybody.

I have enjoyed allotment gardening for many years but since the new committee has been running the site there is a new buzz about the place and the improvements that have already been put in place make it so much more its now not just an allotment site more of a community site. Keep up the good work
I feel so lucky to have found a plot at Gresty Street Allotments!
After 2.5 years on a waiting list, a friend suggested I contact Gresty Street to see if there were any available plots- and fortunately, I applied just at the right time!
The plot I have is going to need some hard work, but my neighbours have been extremely encouraging and very, very friendly, generous and helpful.
At last, I feel part of a community that I have a common interest with and I can’t wait to do some hard winter groundwork to be ready for next spring/summer.

Loving my plot
Maria Herant
I love being out in the open air, working with the land and exercising is good for your mental and physical health. Just 30 minutes of work on your allotment can burn around 150 calories the same as doing low-impact aerobics. Our allotment is now more diverse and you can find real community spirit as well as social activities and you meet new friends. I get great satisfaction in eating something that I have grown as I know where it's from and that it has travelled zero food miles and is not wrapped up in plastic packaging.
Also, just 1 square metre of land can support hundreds of different species so by cultivating an allotment you are single-handedly helping to create habitats for bees and other wildlife and that's the reason why I love my allotment.

Despite being recent members of Gresty Street Allotments, a welcoming, communal and wholesome place it's been from the start. Never have been short of a helping hand or advice. We have also attended an open day, again nothing but friendly faces to those curious to see what is at the allotments whom were also welcomed with open arms.
Its home from home for our family and extremely secure. Time flies when here, its hard to say whether more is spent chatting to neighbours or working but its fun nevertheless. We have learnt so much and look forward to many more years to come!

Our Plots
Our Allotment:
Allotments are the perfect place
To rid yourself of stress
Its good to dig up all the weeds
And clear out all the mess
To plant the seeds and watch them grow
Is nature at its best
The wildlife is a joy to watch
Your sure to be impressed
A little bit of banter
A joke or two with friends
A little bit of heaven
In a scene that never ends
We really love our little plot
To wile away the hours
To sit and watch the sun go by
In sunshine and in showers
